Lagos’ Most Stunning Beaches

If you say Lagos, you say beaches. Yes, stunning beaches. As I was ‘working from home’ in Lagos for a week, I was able to discover the Portuguese ‘praias’ before and after work. And well, those 6 am runs, lunches on the beach and after work beach walks were worth it. Discover my favorite beaches of Lagos in this blog.

1. Praia Porto de Mós

My favorite beach is also the closest to the studio I was staying in. Praia Porto de Mós is not the most idyllic or beautiful praia you will find around Lagos. Then, why go there? It is still magical, it is a bit more spacious than most beaches located around the city and perfect for early morning runs or beach walks. You can walk or run quite a bit on Praia Porto de Mós. Once on the beach walk to the left, that is the most beautiful walk. Is it too hot? The rocks on the walk to the right may protect you from the sun.

2. Praia do Canavial

Praia do Canavial is a bit hidden but therefore even more wonderful. This beach is known to be a nudist beach. Is this not your thing? I ran to the beach in the morning and I went back a couple of days later in the evening. The beach was empty. I was all by myself with the rocks lit in the evening sun. Magical!

3. Praia da Balança

This hidden beach is less known and often overlooked by tourists. You can only get here via a short but steep hike. If you want to lay on the beach, have some privacy but still be in a beautiful place, this is the beach to go to. It’s less crowded but it offers the same beauty as its more known neighbouring beaches.

4. Praia do Camilo

Praia do Camilo is one of the most famous beaches of Lagos. It has its own car park and it’s a bit more easily accessible by wooden stairs. A must go when in the area. Don’t you like beaches that are too crowded? Go early in the morning! During my run at 6.30 am, there was almost nobody.

5. Praia do Dona Ana

If you are planning a trip to Lagos, you definitely already read about Praia do Dona Ana. This is the most famous beach of the area. And yes, it is beautiful, and busy. Watch the sunrise from this beautiful beach. I promise you won’t regret it and it will not be too busy yet.

More tips…

When in Lagos and beachhopping in this area, don’t forget to go to Ponta da Piedade. Park your car and walk a bit around of the main road. You will see some sand paths and a wooden constructed path. Follow both. Don’t forget your camera, from here you will have the most stunning views.

You can also run from Ponta da Piedade to Praia Porto de Mós. Take enough time. You will come across some amazing view points along the way.

It is stunning to see all the beaches from the cliffs and the beaches itself. Nonetheless, doing a boat trip or kayaking into the grottos is highly recommended. If you have time, do both. You can find Grotto Tours stationed next to Forte da Ponta da Bandeira. You don’t need to make a reservation.

If you love sun, beaches and beautiful views, the praias of Lagos are a must-see! Add them to your bucket list.

Keep exploring,

W.
