And there I was, working from home (away from home) in a studio in Lagos. The studio I booked was basic but did what it had to do. There was a good WiFi connection, it had a nice and quiet balcony to work from and the pool faced the sun during my lunch breaks. I was ready to discover Lagos, a city that has been on my bucket list for ages.
For a holiday I would not recommend Palm Studio Villas, unless you are travelling on a tight budget. It is perfect for a work from home holiday if you need a quiet and basic place. Nonetheless, it is perfectly located between all the beautiful beaches that are a must visit and the old centre of Lagos. Read all about the nicest beaches and most delicious bars in the ocean city of the Algarve.
Coffee bars and br/lunch
By far my favorite coffee bar and lunch spot in Lagos is Indigo. This coffee bar is not just ‘a coffee bar’, when you enter the bar you immediately feel part of the community that the Indigo staff has created. Their lunch menu is fabulous and their rooftop where dj’s and musicians give the best of themselves is even better.
London Tiger Coffee is located in a small street in the middle of Lagos. Opposite this cosy coffee bar is an art atelier which is worth a visit as well. Not only the coffee of London Tiger Coffee will raise your mood but also the lovely ladies working at the bar.
If you are planning a proper brunch, Abigail’s is your go-to spot. This plant-based restaurant offers a range of delicious brunch options, smoothies and coffees for everyone who loves good but healthy food. You cannot go to Lagos and not visit this beautiful coffee bar.
Best Restaurants in Lagos
One of the hotspots of Lagos is ‘The Garden‘. The name says it all. The garden literally is a garden. You enjoy your lunch or dinner surrounded by plants, flowers and turtles. What do you want more? Good food! The food is delicious. Even though the entire menu is rather cheap, the food is exquisite. The Lena’s vegetarian lasagna did the job. And don’t forget to order a dessert, you won’t be disappointed.
Do you fancy a stylish evening with top-notch food? Casa Mae is where you want to be. This boutique hotel is more than a hotel. It is a vibe, a home, a lifestyle. The perfect place to relax and enjoy a wonderful dinner. Make a reservation!
At Tasca Jota you eat local between locals. This well-kept secret is known by locals as one of the best restaurants in Lagos. It is located outside of the city walls in a residential area. The food is delicious, the restaurant is cosy and the vibe is local. Tasca Jota is a must-visit when in Lagos.
Discover Lagos
What do you need to do when in this popular city in the Algarve? Well, first of all you have the typical things you do in every city. Visit the old city, discover the beaches and enjoy good food. I will dedicate a blog to the beaches in the Lagos area. So let’s dive into what else there is to do and see in Lagos.
Roam the streets. Lagos exists out of beautiful white houses and small streets. The most popular restaurants and streets can be found in lower Lagos, or the valley, all the streets that are down hill. However, you should walk up the hill. You will come across incredible views and some beautiful street art.
While you walk through the city don’t forget to pass following places:
- Forte da Ponte da Bandeira
- Praça do Infante D. Henrique
- Igreja de Santa Casa de Miseriórdia de Lagos
- Mercado Municipal de Lagos
- Praça de Gil Eanes
- Rua Lançarote de Freitas
Don’t forget to enjoy your walk and the Portuguese sun.
