Seoul, the capital of South Korea, is an amazing and dynamic city that offers a unique blend of modern and traditional attractions. Last April I explored the city for 6 days, and I loved it. From its bustling streets to its historical landmarks and natural beauty, Seoul is one of my new favourite cities. I highly recommend to put this Asian city on your bucket list. Discover the 7 sites you need to visit on your trip to Seoul!

1. Gyeongbokgung Palace

One of the most famous landmarks in Seoul, Gyeongbokgung Palace is a beautiful example of traditional Korean architecture. The palace was built in 1395 and has been beautifully restored over the years. Visitors can watch the changing of the guard ceremony, tour the palace buildings, and learn about Korean history and culture. Take enough time to visit the palace and its gardens. It’s lovely to sit down and enjoy the beauty of the place.

2. Namsan Tower

Located on top of Namsan Mountain, Namsan Tower offers stunning panoramic views of the city. Visitors can take a cable car up to the tower, where they can enjoy the views, dine at one of the tower’s restaurants, and leave a lock on the tower’s fence as a symbol of their love. You already have a great view from the foot of the tower. You can choose to also ascend the tower but be prepared for long waiting times. I recommend to take the lift or bus up to the foot of the tower and walk back down through the amazing garden.

3. Myong-Dong

A popular shopping district in Seoul, Myeong-dong is a bustling area filled with street vendors, shopping malls, and food stalls. Visitors can shop for clothes, cosmetics, and accessories, try traditional Korean street food, and experience the lively energy of the district. For the amazing street lights go to this area in the evening.

4. Bukchon Hanok Village

Bukchon Hanok Village is one of my favourite places in the city. This historic village is home to hundreds of traditional Korean houses known as “hanoks.” You can take a walking tour of the village, learn about Korean history and culture, and even stay overnight in one of the traditional hanoks. I loved to wander around the little streets and be surprised by the traditional houses, small shops and stunning views.

5. Cheonggyecheon Stream

This urban oasis is a man-made stream that runs through the heart of Seoul. You can take a walk along the stream, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. This is a welcome oasis in the busy city.

6. Gwangjang Market

One of the oldest and largest traditional markets in Seoul, Gwangjang Market offers a wide variety of street food, handmade crafts, and textiles. Here you find for souvenirs, you can try traditional Korean food, and experience the vibrant energy of the market. Getting lunch at this market is a must-do! You will be surrounded by a mix of tourists and locals. Taste the best Korean food.

If you only have a few days in Seoul, I recommend visiting the above landmarks and their surrounding areas. Seoul is a big city and there are many more things to see. I am curious what your favourites are. Let me know in the comments!
