Gangnam is one of the most popular neighbourhoods in Seoul, South Korea. Known for its bustling streets, high-end fashion stores, and vibrant nightlife, Gangnam is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Seoul. During my recent trip to Seoul, I had the chance to explore this lively area and experience all that it had to offer.

How to Get to Gangnam

My boyfriend and I stayed two nights in an AirBnB in Gangnam, which I highly recommend. If you are not staying in the area, the best way to get to Gangnam is by taking the subway. Seoul has an extensive subway system that is fast, efficient, and affordable. I advise to get a T-Money card as soon as you arrive in Seoul and top it up as you go. Gangnam is easily accessible by subway, with several stations in the area. Take Line 2 and get off at Gangnam Station, which is one of the busiest stations of the city.

Shopping in Garosu-gil

As soon as I arrived in the neighbourhood, I was hit by the energy and excitement of Gangnam. The streets were filled with people, both locals and tourists and I was surrounded by high buildings and advertisements. A good way to start exploring Gangnam is by checking out some of the high-end fashion stores that the area is famous for. Head to the Garosu-gil area, which is known for its trendy boutiques and designer shops.

After shopping, you can grab a bite in one of Gangnam’s many restaurants. Gangnam is known for its incredible food scene, and I was eager to try some of the local specialties. Try one of the local Korean BBQ’s or one of the hipster coffee and lunch bars.

Dancing in Itaewon

Gangnam is known for its vibrant nightlife scene. I headed to the Itaewon area, which is known for its clubs and bars. I highly recommend the speakeasy Pussyfoot, which is a secret but elegant cocktail bar. If you want more drinks after, head towards the local bar Stoked and Stoned. Further, you can find multiple bars that are open until the early hours. You can find a spot to dance on every music genre in Itaewon, from K-Pop to EDM.

The COEX Mall

The next day, I decided to explore some of Gangnam’s cultural attractions. I headed to the COEX Mall, which is the largest underground shopping malls in Asia. The mall is also home to the Starfield Library, which is a must-visit.

After the library, go to the Bongeunsa Temple, which is one of the most important Buddhist temples in Korea. The temple is located in the heart of Gangnam, and it was a peaceful escape from the busy streets. The temple complex is massive, and you can spent several hours exploring the various buildings, statues, and gardens.

Visiting Gangnam will be an incredible experience. From the high-end fashion stores to the lively nightlife scene to the fascinating cultural attractions, Gangnam has something to offer everyone. If you’re planning a trip to Seoul, I highly recommend adding Gangnam to your itinerary.

Enjoy!
