Here I am in Mfuwe, South Luangwa, Zambia. I had never thought that I would live here for 6 weeks, but it is and I’m enjoying it.
Ten months ago I became part of a project called Studio Zambia. A project that aims to give students and the community a place to talk about socially sensitive topics by means of theater. Studio Zambia was founded by the Dutch Studio 52nd and the Belgian Academics for Development and collaborates with Project Luangwa in Zambia. Together with 6 other KU Leuven students I will be living in a camp, called Croc Valley, for the next 6 weeks. We will be eating, living and sleeping between the monkeys, hippos and elephants.
But how did we get here? First we flew from Düsseldorf to Dubai and after a 3 hour lay-over we flew from Dubai to Zambia’s capital, Lusaka. In Lusaka we stayed in a very good hostel, Lusaka Backpackers Hostel, which was near the airport and bus stop we needed the next morning. After a first good night sleep on African soil we took a Jonda Bus at 5 in the morning. This bus was to bring us together with 50 Zambians, car doors, matrasses and lots of other stuff to Mfuwe. After 12,5 hours we reached the village in South Luangwa.
Croc Valley, a camp with the most friendly staff, is to be our home for the next months. The stories of me and my theme can be followed on studiozambia.wordpress.com or on this blog.
